Roles of a Volunteer
While this may sound like a daunting list of responsibilities, people from all walks of life have successfully completed our training and done a great job as hotline counselors. Currently, our hotline counselors include: a pharmacist, a teacher, a homemaker, a minister's wife, a quiltmaker, a librarian, a fast-food worker, a retired businesswoman, a mail carrier, a realtor, and a school bus driver!

Our excellent 20-hour training, followed up by additional training opportunities and monthly case review meetings, make it possible for the new volunteer to join the hotline feeling confident of his/her skills. Backup is always available from experienced volunteers or staff.

It has been our experience that most people understimate their abilities when deciding what they can offer as a volunteer. Keep this in mind: If you have been a parent, you probably have crisis intervention skills and experience!
